Friday Feature: Landis

Screen shot 2015-01-30 at 7.39.46 AMPart of Armin van Buuren’s competitive advantage is his double-edged skillset, in addition to being a talented DJ-Producer; the former DJ Mag world No. 1 ranked DJ is also an attorney. Meet Landis, a 22-year-old South Florida native, trending name in dance music and creator of the “Miami Bounce” genre. In addition to making music, he’s also studying to be a psychologist. This lethal combination of music prowess and mind control might be the recipe for a music revolution we’ve never seen. Stay tuned.

Landis’ music is getting support from the industry’s biggest names: Tiesto, Hardwell, Fedde le Grand and Paul Oakenfold, but one moment stands alone. Landis was in the crowd at EDC Las Vegas with 50,000 fans when Cedric Gervais played his remix of “Things Can Only Get Better.” A moment he remembers vividly, “It was amazing, straight chills when that happened.”

Recently at the Life In Color festival in Miami, Landis was able to catch TJR’s set which included two of Landis’ remixes. His proud friends will let people standing nearby know, “This is my friend Landis! He produced this track!” Most of the time people think they’re lying or just crazy, but they’re not and more Landis music is heading to the main stage. His remixes of “Intoxicated” from Martin Solveig & GTA; “Ass Hypnotized” from TJR and a Landis original called, “Yum Yum” coming out on Chuckie’s Dirty Music label are cued up. Soon Landis will be at the helm of Life In Color’s weekly podcast, the “Big Bang Radio Show.”

He started DJing at 13, at 17 he went to Ultra Music Festival for the first time and since then he’s been focused on making his own music. While going to UCF in Orlando, he spent time with Henry Fong, DallasK and Milo & Otis at a weekly college party called, “Riot Wednesday.” He once competed in a DJ contest that was held at the bottom of a drained pool, started at the bottom of a drained pool now we here… While his career is still in its infancy, the future looks good.

All that’s happened for Landis started with a very simple premise – he heard music, he saw DJs play and in his head, he thought he could be better. “Like any industry, there are politics involved, but quality content triumphs. You have to put the time in and everything will sort itself out.”
